1969 World Series Game 6

In a pitching rematch of Game 3, this sixth contest of the series pitted Gary Gentry against Jim Palmer. New York needed a win to force a decisive Game 7, while Baltimore looked to wrap up their second world championship.

The Orioles struck early when Boog Powell belted a two-run homer in the bottom of the first. Gentry settled down after that to keep Baltimore's hitters in check for the next few innings. But Palmer was locked in, seeking to carry his team to the title. The score remained 2-0 through seven innings.

In the bottom of the eighth, Frank Robinson connected for a two-run blast that doused any remaining hope for the visitors. Palmer retired the last nine Met batters in a row, completing a three-hit shutout.

In a reversal from the historical result of this World Series, Earl Weaver's boys triumphed four games to two. It was a tight series though that could have gone either way. Baltimore's 12-inning victory in Game 4 proved to be the major turning point.
